Portland medical care services consist of two Health Centres an Immediate Care Centre, Physiotherapy and X-Ray departments.

The Portland GP Practice has long since recognised that the movement of Acute Hospital Services from Weymouth to Dorchester, would leave the residents of Portland isolated from emergency and investigative health care services.

In order to redress this situation the GP Practice continually strives to improve the services it provides

The Underhill gatehouse Surgery is being extended to incorporate a 16 bedded , inpatient GP unit, a purpose built Immediate Care Centre, X-Ray and Physiotherapy facilities as well as extended GP Surgery premises.
The new hospital extension is open, the main building is being refurbished and should be fully open in October 2004.
On the lower site, �Housing 21� is progressing with the new buildings for its close care accommodation.

This will allow the GPs and their staff to be far more responsive to their patients needs, including : better access to ;
